Tips by Demitrius - Slice an Image

Begin by locking your original image to the composition space. Click on the Arrange icon Arrange and then with your image selected, click on the lock icon Lock. As the name implies, this will lock down your original image. It's very important that this image not move while we're doing this so things won't get out of alignment.

By now you know how many sections you're going to need and their dimensions, right? For this example, I started out with a 490x270 pixel image. I wanted 4 equal sections, each measuring 245x135. Now, pick a color in the color picker that really contrasts with your image. It doesn't matter what color it is, this is just for your eyes only, but it's easier to work with if the color stands out from your image. In this example, I used gray.

Next you'll create the actual sections you need. Using the Shapes tool Shapes I created 4 gray, 245x135 rectangles. Position them just off to one side. Grab any one of them, and place it above the top left hand corner of your image. No need to try to line it up, MIC will do this for you. With the rectangle still selected, hold down the Shift key and click on your original sprite.

At first, the small sprite's handles are solid. That means it is the "target" sprite. But we need the large sprite to be the target for the next step, so press the Tab key just once and notice how the original sprite's handles are now all solid as shown in the above example. Perfect.

Click on the Arrange icon Arrange and look at the bottom left section of the palette under Align. See all them squares? Align This tool will do all the precision alignment you could dream of. In a snap! It's real easy to use. You simply click on the section you need lined up. In this example we need the top left hand sections aligned, so you'll click on the top left hand square. Easy, eh? Just make sure your 2 images are still selected with the original, locked sprite's handles solid.

Leave the sprites selected just as they are for the next step.
