Tips by Demitrius - Slice an Image

Now have a look at the very same image only this time with a 1 pixel space in between:

The first issue you'll need to address is the size of the original image. For simplicity, it should be dividable by the number of sections you need and not end up with a fraction. Huh? What I mean is, let's say you have a 91x91 pixel image. To slice it up into 4 equal sections, each would have to measure 45.5 pixels. Well, MIC can't do that, so you'd have to make 2 sections 46x45, one 45x45 and one 46x45. Confused? Trust me, it gets worse.

So take the easy path and crop your image so that it will cut into equal sections. Take that 91x91 and crop it down to 90x90 so that you can slice it into 45x45 sections. Or, let's say you have a menu bar that you want to slice up and it measures 500 pixels across. You need to slice it into 6 sections. To make each section equal, they'd have to be 83.33 each. Not good. Crop that image down to 498 pixels and you can then create 6, 83 pixel wide sections.

If you insist on skipping this step, you'll end up calling your 10 year old over to help you. She'll start to feel pressured and begin to cry. Your wife will see what's happening and yell at you for ever getting that dang machine and making her a "computer widow". Next thing ya know, you're spending the night in the garage thumbing through old Sports Illustrated magazines wondering why you ever came to my little website. Don't go there! Crop your image down so that it can be equally divided. Later, as you gain experience, you can mess with odd shaped images.

Whew!
